India News | Mercury Likely to Dip by Up to 4 Degrees Celsius in Jharkhand from Jan 25

The chill is poised to return to Jharkhand, India, with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting a significant drop in temperatures starting this Saturday. A decrease in the minimum temperature by up to four degrees Celsius is anticipated.

Currently, in most regions of Jharkhand, the minimum temperatures have been registering above 10 degrees Celsius. However, this pattern is expected to change, leading to colder conditions. The lowest temperature recorded in the state recently was 7.8 degrees Celsius in Gumla. In contrast, Jharkhand’s capital, Ranchi, noted a milder minimum temperature of 12 degrees Celsius, which is 2.2 degrees above the average for this time of year.

Other cities like Jamshedpur and Bokaro reported minimum temperatures of 12.8 degrees Celsius and 11.2 degrees Celsius, respectively. According to Abhishek Anand, the in-charge of the Ranchi Meteorological Centre, significant changes in temperature are not expected until January 24. However, a drop of three to four degrees Celsius may occur after this date.

The IMD’s forecasts predict that Ranchi’s minimum temperature could reduce to 11 degrees Celsius on January 25 and further dip to 10 degrees Celsius by January 26. The prospect of partial cloud cover looms over the northern and central areas of Jharkhand on Thursday and Friday, which could influence upcoming temperature changes.

In anticipation of the colder weather, Ranchi’s district administration is taking proactive steps to assist the vulnerable. Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri has initiated the distribution of blankets to those without shelter and individuals living along roadsides. Key areas targeted for this initiative include Albert Ekka Chowk, Kali Mandir Chowk, daily market parking zones, and Durga Mandir Ratu road, with the activity commencing late Wednesday night.

Moreover, to combat the dropping temperatures, the district administration has arranged for bonfires at all major intersections and throughout various blocks within Ranchi district. The distribution of blankets across different blocks was also noted as a measure to provide warmth and comfort to those in need during this cold spell.
