New Perspectives: Unveiling the Royal Enfield Himalayan After 1,000km
Our journey with the Royal Enfield Himalayan has crossed the first significant milestone of 1,000 kilometers, starting from the moment it rolled out of the showroom with just a minimal mileage. The ride has primarily unfolded within the confines of urban sprawl, mastering my daily commutes that stretch nearly 70 kilometers to and from work. What stands out is the efficiency and ease with which it devours these distances.
Traditionally, the trek to work could easily stretch to an hour on two wheels, but aboard the Himalayan, the duration has been noticeably abbreviated to a brisk 45-50 minute sojourn. The surprising factor isn’t an increase in speed but rather the bike’s adeptness at navigating through less than perfect road conditions without needing to decelerate significantly.
The prowess of its suspension system, in harmony with a well-balanced chassis and an ergonomically designed riding position, empowers it to glide over rough terrains effortlessly. For inhabitants of cities marred by poor road infrastructure, this attribute of the Himalayan transforms into a prized possession.
The magnitude of this motorcycle might pose a challenge to novices or those of shorter stature, highlighting its substantial nature right from the moment it’s propped off its stand. Despite this, the sheer comfort, riding capability, and the convenience of a large fuel tank it brings to the table justify its bulkiness. It provides a refreshing option amidst a market saturated with lighter, more approachable models.
In the hustle of city traffic, maneuvering the Himalayan is surprisingly less strenuous than anticipated, facilitating seamless navigation through constricted spaces. A comparative experience against the backdrop of navigating a 390 Adventure across urban landscapes revealed the Himalayan demands less physical exertion from its rider, chiefly attributed to its superior suspension, comfortable seating, and robust mid-range torque. As opposed to the KTM, which exudes a sportier vibe and feels lighter, the Himalayan offers a more laid-back ride without compromising on the thrill.
Reliability checks off as another commendable aspect of the Himalayan experience. The motorcycle ignites without qualms, maintaining a consistent performance devoid of unexpected stalling or erratic behavior. Notably, the accuracy of its fuel gauge is a testament to Royal Enfield’s meticulous engineering, a feature that certainly sets a benchmark for its peers. The bike demonstrates a commendable fuel efficiency of about 25km per liter, even with dynamic riding, supported by a voluminous 17-liter tank that promises an extensive range on highways.
Approaching the 500km mark summons the Himalayan for its inaugural service, which encompasses a comprehensive inspection and the replacement of engine oil. The expense for this initial upkeep totaled Rs 3,062, dissecting down to Rs 2,415 for 2.1 liters of semi-synthetic 10W-40 engine oil. Additional costs included Rs 250 for a first service kit, Rs 118 towards consumable charges, and Rs 279 for the procurement of a chain lube and cleaning kit.
In culmination, the first thousand kilometers aboard the Royal Enfield Himalayan have unfolded as a testament to its rugged charm, seamless maneuverability, and unyielding reliability. It carves a niche for itself, beckoning the adventurous spirit of riders who crave for a machine that’s as steadfast on tarmac as it is on trails.
