With the onset of ‘Chillai Kalan’, Srinagar experiences its coldest night of the season at minus 8.5 degrees
The Kashmir Valley was plunged into deep freeze as ‘Chillai Kalan’ commenced, marking its notorious 40-day harsh winter period. Both the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh have experienced a significant dip in temperatures, much to the distress of their residents. This minimum temperature is the lowest recorded since 1974 when temperatures plummeted to minus 10.3°C. The historical record for the coldest night in the city remains at an icy minus 12.8°C, which occurred on December 13, 1934.
