President Bola Tinubu is set to leave Abuja today, heading towards Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He will be participating in the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit, which kicks off tomorrow and culminates on Tuesday.
Accompanying President Tinubu will be a delegation that includes the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and the Special Adviser on Energy, Olu Verheijen, along with other senior officials.
The Summit, hosted by the Tanzanian government in collaboration with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank, is centered around “Mission 300.” This initiative aims to extend electricity access to 300 million Africans by the year 2030.
In Dar es Salaam, a convergence of African leaders, executives from the private sector, development allies, and representatives from civil society will deliberate on expedited strategies for increasing energy accessibility throughout the continent. The Summit will serve as a crucial platform for the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and resources tailored to address Africa’s energy dilemma.
Key topics on the agenda include advancing energy availability in underserved regions, the promotion of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, and strategies for drawing private sector investments.
The first day of the Summit will be dedicated to ministerial sessions where participating nations, including Nigeria, will elucidate their national energy strategies. These strategies, referred to as compacts, will detail each country’s approach to achieving universal energy access within the next five years.
On the closing day, Heads of State are expected to ratify the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration. This declaration will lay out a collective roadmap charting Africa’s course towards the fulfillment of the Mission 300 goals.
President Tinubu is also scheduled to make a national statement during the event, reaffirming Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to achieving universal energy access. He aims to underline Nigeria’s leadership role within Africa’s evolving energy sector.
