Residents Feel the Chill as Temperatures Plummet Across North India
As winter unfolds over the northern parts of India, residents are experiencing a severe dip in temperatures, accompanying rain and fog. The weather conditions usher in a cold wave that casts a shiver over the national capital and its neighboring regions.
In the heart of New Delhi, the mercury fell to a brisk 8 degrees Celsius as the minimum and climbed up to only 20 degrees Celsius as the day’s maximum. Reports of light rains further added to the city’s wintry ambiance.
Venturing a little further east, Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh mirrored the cold spell with minimum temperatures at 9 degrees Celsius and maximums reaching 25 degrees Celsius. Local inhabitants were seen gathering around bonfires, seeking respite from the biting cold as more chilling days are anticipated.
A resident pointed out that the cool temperatures significantly hampered visibility, remarking, “The thick layers of fog have made it hard to see far, and we might be in for even harsher weather spells.”
Not to be left out, the historic city of Agra felt the chill as the thermometer registered a low of 10 degrees Celsius. The iconic Taj Mahal was shrouded in dense fog, presenting a haunting yet beautiful scene.
In the sacred city of Prayagraj, where social activities moved around warmth and gathering, the minimum temperature posted was 12 degrees Celsius, while the daytime temperature reached 25 degrees Celsius. Ajit Pratap Singh, a local, noted an increase in fog density, leading people to frequent the comforting flicker of bonfires.
Meanwhile, light rain made its presence felt in Noida, signaling the persistence of the cold front. Rajasthan’s popular hill station, Mount Abu, didn’t escape the weather’s icy grip either. A minimum of 10 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 22 degrees Celsius marked the day’s temperatures. Visitors enjoyed the frozen breath of air with many seen purchasing warm clothing to brave the nighttime chill.
Preeti, a tourist enjoying the cold bite of the hill ambiance, commented, “The winds here are quite cold, especially at night, making it a perfect time to visit and relish the weather.”
According to forecasts, dense fog conditions and a cold wave are expected to continue enveloping regions like Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and beyond from December 23 to 25, as the cold narrative unfolds in North India.
